In March 2002, I was asked by the X Files Official Site to provide a digital artwork featuring Annabeth Gish's character, Special Agent Monica Reyes. This was part of a feature to commemorate the end of the show in May of the same year. The specifications were that I had to use only images from the show itself (to avoid the need to obtain copyight permissions) and that the outcome needed to be high resolution. This was a challenge because I had no access to high-resolution promotional images at that time. I did have access to a handful of full-screen DVD grabs, including the closeup that forms the centerpiece of the artwork, the main image of her holding her firearm, and the top left image. I decided to use those three to form the main placement, and use my smaller shots to fill the gaps. The shadows in the closeup matched the street placement of the firearm still, so that placement came naturally, and it all went from there. The other decision I made early on was to place the two smaller images where Reyes has her weapon so that the three formed a kind of circular movement. I think it draws the eye on a global path over the image.
